Restore Single Files From Your Backups

Browse any backup, see what changed in a file, and put back one file or several without restoring the whole site. Restores now show their progress too.

You can now open any backup, look through its files and bring back just the ones you need, instead of rolling back your whole site.

What you can do

  • Browse a backup - open the Backups tab of your site and click Files on any backup to see its folders and files as they were when the backup was taken. You can also search by file name.
  • See what changed - click Compare on a file to see how it differs from the version on your site now. Lines that were added or removed are highlighted, so you can check before you restore anything.
  • Restore one file or several - restore a single file from the comparison, or tick several files and restore them together. A file you deleted by mistake can be put back the same way.
  • Download files - download one file, or tick files and folders and download them together as a zip.

Your site’s configuration file, which holds your database password, isn’t listed in backups, to keep it private.

Clearer backups and restores

  • Back up now - take a backup of your site from its Backups tab whenever you like, for example before updating a plugin.
  • Progress you can follow - while a backup or restore is running you’ll see how long it has been going, and a message tells you when it has finished or if something went wrong.

No action needed on your end.
